Christine Hurst – Whanau Resource Centre are looking to assist with connectively for families who do not have anything using Skinny jump modems.  A form will be put up on the Whanau Resource Centre website. They had a Pataka installed just before lockdown but it was not blessed so will be available when we move to level 2.

Denise has also been working with Pukekohe North School through 2020 Trust they don’t have devices at home so there is not much learning.  The 2020 Trust is doing an on-line digital class for the parents to help them teach their children and a device is provided.

Jan Wallace – Pukekohe Community Action is very busy with food parcels and assisting in the community, we have given out 63 food parcels in September to date.  We also have a small community garden and one at the St Andrews Church which provides some vegetables that go into the food parcels.  We also support first time mum’s and babies groups and have playgroups on Monday’s & Friday’s.  We also have grief and loss programmes for children.  One of big projects during the year is PJ into schools, this year PCA provided 950 pairs of PJ’s.

Julie Kerr – Dementia Auckland, working in the Pukekohe area.  They have continued working through this lockdown keeping in contact and supporting their clients via zoom.

4.0 Guest Speaker – Sue Wallis  and her team, Sei Brown & Chelsea Kitzen, from Waiuku Zero Waste

Waiuku Zero Waste is a recycling station for the Waiuku community and have been operating for seven years and are making a difference in the community.  They serve 20,000 residents covering Waiuku, Clarkes Beach, Awhitu Peninsula and towards Pukekohe.

Items that are  seen as waste can be recycled, reused or upcycled rather than going into landfill, Waiuku Zero Waste handles 2,000 tonnes annually and are able to reuse or recycle 1,400 tonne.

They also have classes to educate people on how to use tools, upcycle and recycle and also have 15-20 school and community groups visit  yearly. They have a community workshop which restores and repairs furniture and also have a tool library which has a low-cost membership to be able to borrow tools, with over 200 power and hand tools and gardening equipment available.

We have started doing repair cafes where people can bring in their broken items for fixing with one planned for the 16th October at the Pukekohe Library. We have an electrician for electrical items, people showing how to fix clothes, another person who will be sharping tools.
