CNF meeting 10am, 23 February – via Zoom

Introductions: All participants introduce themselves and gave a rundown on how their organisations are tracking, particularly in the light of Covid-19 and the current Omicron outbreak. Some key points to emerge:
- Person-to-person contacts resumed for some organisations and proving invaluable.
- Working from home and providing support services continuing to be hard for some organisations.
- Good signs that things are beginning to turn and the way ahead is clearer.
Points to note:
- Denise Procter, digital programme manager at 20/20 Trust talked about the availability of subsidised in-home devices for children subsidised by TEC
- Jan Wallace gave an update on the increasing number of requests to the Pukekohe Community Action foodbank. Also looking for organisations willing to be collection points for the annual pyjama drive.
- Ben Golchin from Vision College outlined the college’s range of free literacy and numeracy for adults and free courses for 16-19 year-olds.
Update on Sustainability Expo
Jan and Judith gave an update on progress with planning for the CNF sustainability expo. Main points:
- Because of the Omicron outbreak, date moved from 26 March to 14 May with a rain date of 21 May
- Venue will be Pukekohe Anglican Church grounds and halls
- Committee in the process of compiling lists of people/organisations to invite and possible workshop/presentations. Committee meeting monthly
- The expo will include practical and spoke presentations as well as physical displays
- Jan urged any CNF member doing anything with sustainability initiatives within their organisation to get in touch with committee and consider taking part in expo
- Nikki de la Rosa keen to do a workshop on reducing packaging – for example using plastics to make poi, sewing swim bags
PRESENTATION
Coral Timmins from Auckland Council gave a PowerPoint presentation on the three guiding documents for staff on sustainability initiatives under the Auckland Climate plan. They are:
- Zero Waste to Landfill
- Reducing Corporate Emissions
- Reducing Water Consumption
Coral says staff are championing these changes out in the community and now in their own workplace/practices under the council’s “sustainability champions”. Jan asked if Coral would do a verbal presentation for the expo.
Adel advised the group a video promo by Waiuku Zero Waste was now available on its website. Link to be shared with CNF members via email.
FREE ONLINE WORKSHOPS
Adel advised of free online workshops provided by Franklin Local Board – one on strategic thinking, the other on succession planning. Cherie to send out link to CNF members via email.
