Natia Tucker and Jan Wallace welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Guest Speaker – Natia Tucker

Natia spoke on her community development work for Auckland Council. She has recently completed her Master of Philosophy on Pacific Development. Natia presented the 6 key elements of Pacific Development:

  • ●  Environmental, social, spiritual realms
  • ●  Communal relationships
  • ●  Pacific history, identity and interconnectedness
  • ●  Mana, self-determination, self-reliance
  • ●  Strong subsistence/ sustainable economy
  • ●  Traditional science and technology & indigenising modernity

She also spoke on her experienced as part of the team on traditional Waka’s Hourua and Aotearoa One, double-hulled ocean-going sailing canoes, and how this can teach us about addressing modern humanitarian issues in a relevant and sustainable way. Natia was also part of a team that sailed to Samoa and more recently completed a voyage around the top of the north island, go tohttps://www.facebook.com/tetokiwakahourua/ to see these journey.

Jan Wallace thanked Natia for the assistance that she has provided to Community Networks Franklin and presented Natia with a bouquet of flowers.
