Minutes
CNF meeting 10am, 28 September at Stevenson Room, Franklin: The Centre
Members in attendance: Representatives from Bombay Anglican Parish; Grandparents Raising Grandchildren; Utilities Disputes; Franklin Family Support Services; Pukekohe Youth Council; Seasons Franklin; Well Women Franklin; office of MP Andrew Bayly; office of MP Hon Nanaia Mahuta; Franklin Hospice; Business and Professional Women’s Association; Budgeting & Family Services; Department of Internal Affairs; Pukekohe Community Action.
Apologies: CMDHB; Auckland Libraries.
Introductions: Chair Jan Wallace welcomed all participants who then introduced themselves and outlined the work their organisations do.
Guest speakers: Oranga Tamariki speakers did not attend.
General discussion: All attendees gave a rundown on how their organisations deal with privacy
issues and in particularly as these relate to the Vulnerable Children’s Act.
Key points:
General lack of information available on obligations under the act and how far organisations
can go in dealing with protection for vulnerable children.
No one source of advice in an emergency.
Schools required to each have their own VCA policy.
Family Court Navigators and Victim Support sources of good information and advice.
GENERAL BUSINESS
Item 1 – CNF Social Services Expo: Reminder to attendees to get their registrations in for the expo
on 27 October, 10am-4pm at Pukekohe Town Hall. Jan and Judith outlined arrangements so far,
including advertising.
Item 2 – Department of Internal Affairs grants: Outlined the funding available to community groups
and social services organisations, most popular is Lotteries Community Funding grants with its focus
on strengthening communities. Next round opens on November 2 and closes on November 30.
Item 3 – Budgeting & Family Support Services: Outlined changes to the organisation’s management
structure and introduced new team members.
Item 4 – Meet the Candidates meeting: BPW advised it was hosting a meet the candidates meeting
on 28 September, 8pm at Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club.
Item 5 – Inspiring Communities workshop: Opportunity given to CNF to host a Community-led
Development Workshop. CNF executive has chosen the workshop “Collaborating in Community-led
Change”. Inspiring Communities would like to run the workshop in mid-late November. Attendees
indicated Tuesdays or Wednesdays are the best days for workshops.
Next meeting: Monthly meeting replaced by Social Services Expo on Thursday 27 October, 10am-
4pm, Pukekohe Memorial Town Hall.

Free Child Development workshop
Pariwaar New Zealand is hosting a free community workshop on child development in Pukekohe
